SALIM JIWA

I can’t think of any other way that I could have wanted to live my life. I have lived the dream of every journalist and writer and explored virtually every aspect of human existence during my years with mainstream media.

I’ve met distinguished world leaders – Rajiv Gandhi, Margaret Thatcher, Joe Clark, Ali Hassan Mwinyi of Tanzania ; I’ve covered press conferences of other world leaders including President Bill Clinton and President Boris Yeltsin. I’ve written about tragedy, humour, lifestyles, terrorism and carried out investigations that have taken me  around the world – from earthquakes to trials to terrorist episodes that have rocked the world. In 1986 and 2006 I wrote books about the Air India bombing tragedy.

My 30-year journalistic career brought recognition in the form of distinguished awards. I have been nominated for or won eight. Currently I am the editor and publisher of Vancouver’s online news source known as Vancouverite.

I’ve met bad people and good people. And I greeted each human respectfully.  I did not back down when there were obstacles to the public’s right to know, I pointed a finger when I saw atrocities, I did not stand aside when it would have been safer to do so.  I never let anyone trample me, nor did I walk over others or cause harm. And everything I did in my life – I did it my way.
